There’s something mysterious about spending the night in a hotel. We’re not sure whether it’s the fresh sheets, the noticeable lack of clutter or the tiny toiletries, but something magical is at play, and naturally, we’re big fans.
If you’re always on the search for a 5-star night’s sleep or you just love how being away from home makes you feel, there are moves you can make to create the same vibe in your own space. Here are our tips:
Upgrade your bed linen
There’s no doubt that at least 90% of the luxury hotel experience is all about the bed. Sinking into high quality linens is a feeling hard to forget and locking it down at home doesn’t have to be out of reach. Firstly, opt for something neutral, light and soft – a luxurious fabric like organic cotton or linen will really upgrade your bedtime experience. This Organic Cotton Percale Duvet Cover fits the bill perfectly, or try the Washed Linen Duvet Cover for a true sensory experience. Add a bedspread or bed runner to build up layers and don’t forget the throw cushions either! We love these Taima Linen and Cotton Cushion Covers in 50x50.
Don’t forget the detail
Stay with us on the bed for a sec. For a little extra something, iron your sheets before putting them on. We know, sounds like serious effort, but trust us: your sleep cycle will thank you for it. Try tucking your sheets into your bedframe too – pulling sheets taut will make them feel fresher for longer and make them a pleasure to crawl into. Try a Flat Sheet instead of fitted to get those hotel crisp corners. Once your bed is made spritz it with a store-bought room spray or homemade linen mist made from cooled, boiled water and 25-30 drops of your favourite essential oil.
Keep it neutral
The most elegant of hotel rooms have a neutral colour palette with just a few standout features. To recreate that look, choose a lighter hue as a headline colour for walls and fabrics, then pick a few key pieces to draw the eye. If you have large windows, for example, use bold curtains to show them off and accentuate their presence. If your room is small and lacks in natural light, try large mirrors like this Lenaig Industrial Metal Mirror to reflect what you do have around the space. Soft, neutral palettes promote calm and a sense of ease, welcoming you in and encouraging you to relax. No questions asked!
Little Luxuries
We truly believe that dressing the space is equally as important as all the other steps we’ve mentioned. For a real 5-star experience, work hard not to let clutter take over. Keep your surfaces clear and only display the items you really want on show. For example, we love this Digori Square Glass Storage Box by AM.PM for your jewellery, or this Premier Set of 2 Round Turquoise Trays for your bedside table. Pack anything but the essentials you use time and again away in drawers or cupboards and dot a few elegant touches around. We love the Shearer Multiwick Candle, a few freestanding Church Candles or a simple reed diffuser.
