Here, she gives her expert advice on preparing for the new season and picks stylish pieces you will want to wear again and again:
Refresh your wardrobe for the new season
Reigniting your wardrobe for the new season should feel less like a complete overhaul and more like refining a favourite recipe. It's an opportunity to add fresh flavours to existing staples; inject a shot of sweetness, some unexpected zest to lift you out of your comfort zone and perhaps a new garnish or two. I’ve explored some classic pieces with a twist from the new collection at La Redoute, and brought you my favourites.
Outer Layers
I like to start with outerwear as that’s going to be the most visible piece for the autumn months. In particular this single-breasted trench coat; its relaxed A-line shape is less formal than the traditional belted version we all know so well, and easier to throw over heavier layers in the transitional months. The check bomber jacket is another reinvigorated classic. With its cropped, boyish silhouette and gentle pleat details, it’s the ideal autumnal remix of Lady Diana at Balmoral crossed with French new wave starlet.
For year-round versatility, look to the oversized shacket, the ultimate transeasonal workhorse. First gaining popularity a couple of seasons ago, it has clearly earnt its place in the keep-it-forever wardrobe. Ways to wear it: undone layered over a slip dress or hoody, draped over shoulders, or buttoned up in the colder months as a structured but cosy shirt.
True blue denim
Jeans are a true wardrobe staple, and if f you’re looking for a denim upgrade, consider a true blue 50s-inspired workwear style. These 100% cotton jeans have a mid-rise, which plays well with the shorter bomber jacket shapes and fitted crop tops that dominated our #hotgirlsummer. To soften the workwear edges, add romance with another retro favourite, the ruffle neck blouse. The prim pie crust collar and deep cuffs nod to the 80s-meets-Victoriana revival. And for the sweetest little sweater, here is the perfect find. Short-sleeve knits as well-proportioned as this are endlessly useful yet incredibly elusive. In the deepest berry shade, this one is a more glamorous alternative to black.
Pure romance
Now for something froufrou. While most wardrobe staples lean towards functional simplicity, I’m a firm believer in the pure pleasure of pretty lingerie. This Jolies Momes X La Redoute set offers the required dose of saccharine-powered dopamine with its sheer triangle bra and matching knickers (sold separately). For added whimsy, I love these heart-shaped earrings. Instant joy-givers whether you’re getting ready for a Friday night out or jumping on a Monday morning video call.
Footwear finishes
While we may have spent the best part of the last year cossetted in the sartorial equivalent of mashed potato, it's time to park the comfy sweats and pool slides for a while. In anticipation of the party season, upgrade your footwear to a celebratory metallic ankle boot. The details of these bronze booties are superb; a walkable block heel, a chic almond-shaped toe and an ankle-hugging silhouette to complement cigarette trousers or this season's gamine mini dress. But if you can't be persuaded out of your athleisure, no judgement! Level up your trainer game with these minimalist sneakers and venture forth with purpose.
