Becoming a parent is a life-changing event for anyone, and one that sometimes has an impact on the way we dress and feel. Here, @bethsandland tells her story of her sojourn to style as a new mum.
A new way of dressing
When I was pregnant with my son I was determined that my new motherhood status wouldn’t change my sense of style. I didn’t want to ‘dress like a mum’ - I just wanted to look and feel like me. For a while that meant whatever was comfiest and quickest to put on in the morning but now that Ziggy’s 19 months old, I have more time to feel considered in my wardrobe again.
I absolutely love dressing him. I tend to opt for neutral styles and classic but comfy looks that allow him to run and jump and play, whilst still looking trendy!
Autumn Dress and Cosy Knits
This is the kind of outfits we’d wear if we were going out for a pub lunch! I love the midi length of the dress and the ditsy florals paired with chunky leather boots and a leather jacket to add a more masculine edge.

The quilted trousers Ziggy is wearing are so soft and comfy; they feel like jogging bottoms but look smarter. I paired them with a mole brown coloured knit and these gorgeous boots. The brown parka is perfect for him because it’s warm and cosy and goes with any outfit! I love choosing pieces that can be worn again and again and passed down too - to boys or girls.

Leggings, Quilted Jacket and Cute Motifs
I love leggings! They’re incredibly comfortable and practical for running around after a toddler. These are the kind of outfits we would wear to soft play. I like to pair leggings with layers to elevate the look and this khaki quilted jacket was perfect - oversized, on trend and versatile!

I’m also really impressed by the padded bag which works really well as a changing bag…without looking like one! I was easily able to fit everything we needed - nappies, water bottle, snacks and a change of clothes, plus my bits - for a day out.

I love babies in sweatshirts and I picked this one for Ziggy because I loved the bear riding a bike motif!

The navy and brown colours pair beautifully with these cute trainers too.

Smart Casual Shirt and Cream Knit
This is the kind of outfit I wear on a work day when I need to feel like I’ve got it together but I still want to be comfortable and not worry too much about sticky toddler cuddles either! I’ve paired black leggings with an oversized white shirt and a black jumper.
The knee length leather boots instantly dress up the leggings.
I often dress Ziggy in neutrals so this outfit was one of my favourites. He looks so lovely and snug! Can’t beat a baby in white.
Jeans and a Tee, Bear Jumper
Every wardrobe needs a good pair of jeans and - not ironically! - since becoming a mum I always reach for ‘mom jeans’. These fitted beautifully and the denim is that lovely blend of firm but soft.
I paired them with a relaxed T-shirt, tucked in, and then added a blazer for a slightly smarter look for out and about.
Ziggy’s wearing lovely soft cord trousers and this adorable bear jumper. He looked so cute!
These outfits are perfect for a day at home, at a friends house or around town.
Denim and Cream Knits
Our final Autumn look is probably my favourite! As soon as I got Ziggy dressed I melted. There’s just something about toddlers in dungarees!
Paired with this gorgeous cream knit jumper and the little boots, he looked absolutely adorable.

It’s a smarter look but one that still provides lots of comfort and practicality! This is the kind of thing we would wear to visit a farm or go for a long walk and a pub lunch at the weekend.
I’ll admit, the twinning was a little accidental…I added a cream bobble knit to my blue mom jeans. Well, he’s not old enough to find me embarrassing yet!
We both wore navy blue wool coats; Ziggy’s reminded me of Paddington Bear. So cute.
