Fall into Autumn in style by @trayslounge

The Autumn Winter capsule wardrobe

I LOVE switching up my wardrobe for Autumn!

Now that the last rays of sunshine have gone there is nothing better than layering up and investing in soft knits, checked tailoring and a great pair of chunky boots.

I have become a much savvier shopper in the last few years, sticking with stylish pieces that I know will stand the test of time instead of following fast fashion trends. Re-inventing my look each season with just a few well-chosen key items rather than a whole new wardrobe has been a real revelation!

These pieces from the new Autumn collection at La Redoute are the perfect building blocks to a great Autumn/ Winter capsule wardrobe… One that you can enjoy and wear for years to come.

1. The Classic Car Coat

This versatile checked coat can be layered up over a great two-piece suit if you are returning to the office or dressed down with a pair of turned up dark denim jeans, a cosy jumper and a pair of great boots for a wonderful weekend full of dog walks.

2. The Pretty Special Top

The age-old question of, "What are you wearing to the pub?” Can be answered with one sentence… "Jeans and a nice top". A pretty, puffed sleeve blouse can elevate an old pair of jeans in seconds. Just add a small evening bag and a pair of suede pixie boots and you are good to go OUT OUT!

3. The Dark Blue Jeans

Classic dark blue jeans always make me feel put together. Even though I am wearing jeans I feel smart in dark denim. Take a leaf out of Posh’s book and team your jeans with an oversized blazer and a crisp mannish shirt for a work wear look that doesn’t have to try too hard. Job Done!

4. The Big Beautiful Bovver Boots

I have been wearing mine since the 80s and I still love them! Big boots will give your floral dress a cool edge, toughen up your quilted coat and look ace with turned up jeans. Boot-iful!

5. The Sweet Suit

A suit is so versatile. Wear it with a belt to add a Parisienne twist to your workwear or break it up and get two items that you can mix and match for work and play. The blazer jacket will also look great with jeans, boots and a shirt and the wide-leg pants can be teamed with a slouchy jumper and trainers. The possibilities are endless!

6. The Slogan Sweatshirt

What a hardwearing piece this printed sweatshirt is! Comfy and cool, this wardrobe staple does what it says on the tin! Keeps you warm and looks great with jeans. Wear over the top of a pie-crust collar blouse to give it a seasonal 70s spin!

7. The Cute Cropped Chinos

I am a bit of an obsessive about the cut of a great pair of trousers. High-waisted and with a 7/8 cut just above the ankle gives these cool chino pants a real fashion edge. Just add trainers and a smart cropped blazer and you will feel put together without feeling too overdressed.

8. The Old School Cool Trainers

A pair of trainers will give any old piece in your wardrobe a box fresh spin. I like a slightly retro style shoe because you can mix them in with day dresses and smart pants as well as jeans. I am all about comfort now that I have turned 50, but still want to look cool, so I always go Old School!

9. A Silk Neck Scarf

In the last few years I have fallen in love with neck scarves. They are the simplest and chicest way to bring an oversized shirt, sweatshirt, or a simple Breton top to life. I also like to add a pop of red lippy now that I have let my hair go grey. Mwah!!!

11. The Tiny Tank

Shrunken tanks look great over a tiered maxi dress and an oversized shirt and chinos. The small proportions pull in a voluminous shape which gives the garment a whole new look. I like wearing mine over a leg of mutton sleeve blouse with jeans and stack heeled boots for a 70s vibe.

12. The Do-it all Dress

Everyone should own at least one dress that makes them feel great whenever they wear it. This tiered midi dress will take you from day to night, no problem! Start the day in big chunky boots and a cardigan and then swap out the boots for suede ankle boots and a cropped jacket when it is time to hit the restaurant for dinner
