Updating a practical family room by Katie Ellison

Lifestyle influencer Katie Ellison (@katie_ellison_home) selects her favourite cosy and stylish pieces to update her conservatory, which needs to also be practical for her family. She includes a mix of natural textures in the form of rugs and soft furnishings, as well as lighting to brighten the space in darker months.

I have three children and this is the room downstairs that we spend the majority of our time in, so it also needed to be practical. An easy but surprisingly effective update was to add pieces from La Redoute interiors, such as this beautiful neutral coloured rug. It makes the room feel warm and cosy, but also can adapt with our changing style and colour scheme in years to come as the colours are simple and go with everything. A rug like this instantly adds a homely touch to a room and feels less cold than hardwood floors.

I am a huge fan of house plants, and La Redoute offer a fabulous collection of faux plants. They add a real pop of colour to a room, and as this is a garden room it makes sense to style it with a mixture of real and faux plants. It gives a real sense of bringing the outside in.

I adore this bench, the natural rattan style doesn’t seem to be going out of fashion, and it is the perfect place to add plants and pots of varying sizes to give the room a relaxed, outdoor vibe.

This is such a great room for the whole family. I selected and added a lovely bamboo basket for the kids to store their toys or books, and added a cosy throw or two so we can all snuggle up and watch a film together. This room is versatile, we turn on our lovely floor lamp, which instantly makes the room feel more cosy and relaxing after a busy day.

La Redoute is one of my favourite interior brands by far, and I just love that they offer such a great range of on trend pieces that are fantastic for instantly updating a room but that are also a great price as well. Our conservatory is the perfect place to spend the cosy winter months, but by summer we will open up the bifold doors and enjoy it a whole different way.
