Mo Hussen, creator of Mo and the Jungle Shelf, an interiors-focused account on Instagram, shares his top tips on how to prepare the home for the festive season using pieces from the collection at La Redoute.
Christmas preparation
When it comes to Christmas I always like to make a few little changes around the house and La Redoute is one of my go-to brands to find unique pieces. I think with the Christmas decorations going up, it gets me in the mood to make some choice purchases to update the home - It’s my version of mindfulness.
In December, I like to give each room a mini refresh. By updating a few everyday items and changing one or two key things in each room, I get the maximum benefit without the need to make huge changes. I always look for things that can work in several different rooms for that added flexibility.
Kitchen

Take the kitchen for example, I love to have different everyday things for the changing seasons, but come this time of the year, I adore having something festive like these Winter miwin bowls and dessert plates. They just ooze Christmas and I use them all throughout December and they are perfectly paired with this Jimane cutlery set.
Making a thing of your morning coffee as well is another great tip of mine – a bottle of milk and a bag of sugar might do the trick, but actually just a little switch up to your daily routine, using this Ceramic milk jug and sugar bowl actually makes your coffee feel that little bit more special – especially when you use this Hygge white steel coffee pot which is Scandi heaven. When it’s Christmas, you really don’t need an excuse!
The sitting room

It might seem a bit of an odd comparison, but I often think dining rooms and bedrooms are similar in that they have this big square central object that we have to work around.
A new rug can transform a sitting room, and it gives the room a new feel. A positive refreshed vibe is so important, especially if you’re going to be hosting guests over Christmas and the New Year.
I’ve updated my dining room with this natural coloured Aitor rug, it’s so subtly patterned and it’s paired perfectly with this Kofia hat-shaped rattan ceiling light which gives it that bold stylish look, but keeps a really neutral palette.
But by choosing carefully, both the light and the rug would look great in the master bedroom or dining room, so they give that flexibility to change the look in either room.
Bedroom

This Chelsea textured striped duvet is in keeping with the natural theme in the bedroom, yet so striking. A duvet cover can make a huge difference to a bedroom – a relatively small change with an instant visual impact. It’s so cosy on those cold winter nights too.
At this time of year baskets are essential and I love this Sentaku rattan linen basket. It’s so versatile – I can use it for the fireplace logs, my towels, shoes in the porch or even to hide Christmas presents! Having things neatly organised can really help with that serene feeling that we all need in a hectic December.
The front door
Finally, I must have a beautiful wreath adorning my door – something I can admire every day. Christmas comes in all shapes and forms, but there’s nothing more festive than this frosted wreath, and you don’t have to worry about it wilting.
