Here at La Redoute, we are grateful for all the ways that our home spaces have given us warmth and sanctuary during the past year. We know that little things can refresh our rooms, making us feel energised and ready for the new season. Here, we hear from apartment dweller Louise at Doug’s Digs about her favourite buys and how she makes her interiors both beautiful and functional.
Spring is the perfect time to dust off the cobwebs, streamline and sort belongings and add in small seasonal updates to lift the mood and create a sense of calm to improve the relationship you have with your home. Living in a small, open plan apartment I am always drawn towards beautiful yet functional pieces that spark joy and can easily adapt with our constantly changing needs.
Our homes have never had to multi task more; from being a functional work space to a calming sanctuary. Here I will share some of my tips to update your space and some of my favourite affordable pieces from La Redoute.
The easiest zoning technique for your living space is adding a large rug to anchor your furniture and add warmth through texture - My favourite is this Berber style rug.
This small side table is a welcome addition to my living space; the perfect size for drinks and accessories. I love the flexibility of being able to move it around so easily – it also doubles up as a bedside table with extra shelving.
Layering textiles is the easiest way to change up a space and gives a cosy, inviting feel. I love simply updating my cushion covers from season to season; lighter linens, embroidery and jute in spring and heavier fabrics like velvet, boucle and wool for winter These Angusto covers in rust and neutral tones look amazing layered with a graphic stripe or plain covers.
Another simple update is adding these beautiful, sheer curtains to soften any direct light, helping maintain a sense of calm. These clips take any stress out of hanging.
La Redoute is my go-to for beautiful storage – their rattan and bamboo baskets add that natural and artisan vibe whilst hiding things away stylishly! This set looks great on my open shelving and these storage boxes with lids are great for organising paperwork, sentimental items and can easily fit under a bed if needed.
Lighting is an important feature in every home; from a statement pendant to layering in a floor or table lamp. This minimalist floor lamp fits easily into a corner and I love the contrast next to soft, linen curtains and cushions.
Layer in a few decorative accessories to add that personal, homely touch. I like grouping vases and mixing scales and heights for interest or opting for one larger statement vase like this. Adding greenery always helps breathe life into a space and bring the outdoors in. These wall planters make clever use of vertical space where floor space is limited and this speckle planter is one of my favourite trend pieces.
Working from home without the luxury of an office, my dining table has to double up during the week. A simple way to separate the two functions and change the feel is to add a relaxed linen tablecloth for dining. This one comes in a variety of shades and definitely makes meal time feel a little more special.
I opted for these natural, Scandi inspired chairs that tie in perfectly with the feel of the apartment and draw the whole look together.
