Card, check. Gift, check. Something to do on the day itself? Ummm…! If you’re still searching for Father’s Day activities, here are a few ideas to get the celebrations started.
Father’s Day often flies past in a flurry of golf-themed cards, craft beer gift sets and novelty socks. Presents for dads can be a bit generic and if he doesn’t really fancy spending the day racing round an F1 track, you might be have that panicky ‘WHAT CAN WE DO TO CELEBRATE’ feeling right now. But don’t worry! We’ve gathered up some alternative activities to give you all the inspo you need.
Visit a foodie festival
At this time of year, any local community worth its salt will be hosting a food festival. Street food trucks, indie bakers, local restaurants, homemade produce – it all comes together, usually alongside live music and kids activities, maybe even a tombola, to create the perfect way to spend the weekend. Find your nearest and treat dad to a bao bun and a pint of craft ale.
Try strawberry picking
Especially fun for dads of small children, strawberry picking is a lovely way to spend some quality family time in the great outdoors. Grab your basket and get picking, making sure you sample the goods along the way… and when you’re done, all those berries can be made into a strawberry cheesecake just for dad (although we’re sure he’d share a slice).
Catch a film together
Haven’t seen the latest Star Wars? Need to catch up on Deadpool 2? Treat your dad to a cinema trip – grab dinner first then swerve all those awkward questions about your love life/job prospects/wedding planning/next child (delete as applicable) by ushering him into a darkened room for 2.5 hours.
Head out for a country walk
If the Weather app is to be believed, we’re set for sunshine this weekend – perfect for getting out and about with your dad. Look for local walks with a pub en-route and head off for some fresh air. Give him charge of the map (but keep Google Maps open at all times, just in case), reminisce about your childhood and share a Sunday roast before heading home.
Go golfing
No, not the serious kind with caddies and cardigans… we’re talking crazy golf! See who can land a hole in one and attempt that impossible put through the clown’s mouth, then it’s time for Mr Whippy ice creams while you tot up the scores.
