Alternative Family Friendly Festivals To Visit This Summer

Want to treat the kids to some live music? Check out our festival round up…

Aaaah, festival season. Time to don your flower crown, dig out the Hunter wellies and dance to music of questionable quality in a muddy field alongside thousands of ‘revellers’. Great when you’re child free, but slightly more tricky when there are a couple of kids in tow. Is it even possible to feel those festival vibes when your six year-old is demanding ice cream and your two year-old is having yet another inexplicable tantrum?

Well, it’s not *quite* as easy, but there are plenty of amazing festivals out there that cater for families with children of all ages. Here’s our round up of some of the best family friendly music events in the UK this summer…

Latitude

13-15 July, Suffolk

If you’re looking for an authentic festival experience with kids in tow, this is probably the closest you’ll get. This year’s performers include The Killers, Solange Knowles and Alt-J, and the small ones can enjoy screen printing, wildlife crafts and circus skills classes.

Deer Shed Festival 9

20-22 July, North Yorkshire

There’s literally LOADS to enjoy at Deer Shed Festival – the music is on-point (Goldfrapp, Field Music) and there are endless activities to get involved in (family films, science workshops, BMXing, tree climbing). Plus this year’s theme is ‘Making Waves’, so expect surfing, sliding and maybe even some diving.

Curious Arts Festival

20-22 July, Hampshire

What do you get when you mix snail racing, bee-keeping and midnight bat walks with giant G&Ts, comedy from Al Murray and poetry workshops for kids? Curious Arts Festival, which sounds like an amazing way to spend a weekend.

Kendal Calling

26-29 July, Cumbria

With The Libertines, Ocean Colour Scene and James on the line-up, the nostalgic music alone is enough to get us interested… but add storytime, Cbeebies celebs and caricature painting in and you’ve got the perfect family getaway.

Camp Bestival

2-5 July, Dorset

The original family festival is back for another fun-filled year – dance along to Basement Jaxx, Clean Bandit and Simple Minds while the kids hang with Dick and Dom, Mr Tumble and the Pirates of Penzance.
