Workwear - 4 work wardrobe updates for Autumn Winter

We’re now well and truly into autumn, but even though the clocks have changed this weekend, the weather is still playing games with us. Warm, sunny days are followed ever more frequently by crisp, cold nights - and it’s hard to know what each day has in store when you leave your house for work early in the morning.

For that reason, it can be hard to know what to wear to work in autumn. Fashionable work clothes that make you feel super stylish while keeping you comfortable behind a desk can be tricky to pin down - but with our handy guide, you’ll be creating your own workwear styles in no time.

We’ve taken key workwear pieces and used them to create four workwear ensembles to inspire you to rethink your autumn work wardrobe.

Outfit 1 - Modern Knitwear

While most offices still maintain standards for workwear, many are inviting a more casual approach to this. As a result, neat trainers, yoga-style trousers and even oversized knitwear are all being more readily accepted as office attire.

If you want to look put together but still feel comfortable, then creating an ensemble that includes super-soft knitwear pieces is a great idea. This outfit we’ve put together combines a relaxed, flared trouser in classic navy with a quirky and fun shirt in lightweight cotton, teamed with a metallic silver loafer for a touch of sparkle. The silver of the shoe is picked up in the dove grey of the maxi cardigan, which has a tie waist so you can wear it open (fixed at the back) or closed (tied at the front) depending on your preferred look - and the temperature.

Outfit 2 - Feminine Biker

Just because you’re wearing a dress to work doesn’t mean you have to stick to smart heels. In fact, the ‘grunge’ trend we’ve seen over recent years for teaming soft, feminine florals with chunky biker-style ankle boots is more popular than ever.

We’ve chosen a monochrome, sophisticated spin on this trend with a black-and-white floral midi shirt-style dress with sleeves, ideal for autumnal days where the temperature can fluctuate. The leather ankle boots give a nod to the biker trend without being too heavy, and we’ve finished the look with a classic leather handbag and wool-mix trench.

Outfit 3 - Preppy Chic

Fans of Clueless and Gossip Girl will love this look for its vintage, preppy style; a check-print skirt teamed with classic Mary Janes and a neat monochrome polo jumper with a two-tone collar and jewelled buttons - finished with a short Spencer jacket.

We’ve stuck to tone-on-tone for Chanel vibes but you could add flair to your choice by mixing in bold coloured pieces or accessorising with chunky, quirky jewellery. Finish with a sloaney padded shoulder bag for the ultimate high-society vibes.

Outfit 4 - Classic & Cool

We all cheered when jeans became a workwear staple. But just because you’re sporting your denim to the office doesn’t mean you have to go casual all the way. It’s easy to create a charming stylish but relaxed look by pairing your skinny jeans with a classic heel.

For this ensemble, we’ve picked a classic nude court shoe that pairs beautifully with the neutral tones of the fine-knit jumper with its delicate, feminine cowl neck. Finished with a bold printed scarf, this is the ultimate day-to-night workwear look for the autumn season.
