Koché x La Redoute

Interview with Christelle KOCHER, the founder and artistic director of the Koché Label.

A true fashion revelation, Christelle Kocher reveals her influences, inspirations and tells us about her capsule collection for La Redoute.

As a child, you drew clothes, you would knit and apparently  it was a documentary about Christian Lacroix that triggered your career in the fashion industry?

Yes, that's true ... that one, among others! I come from an environment where I did not really have contact with fashion but from an early age, fashion fascinated me. As soon as I could approach this world, through magazines or reports, I was captivated! To do this job, you have to be absolutely passionate, and that is what makes creation possible in the long-term.

Tell us about the label you created in 2015 which quickly became a sensation.

After graduating from Central Saint Martins, I worked at Martine Sitbon, Emporio Armani, Sonia Rykiel and then Dries Van Noten. In 2010, I was asked to work on the artistic direction of Maison d'Art Lemarié which belongs to the Chanel group, at the same time I was working as a stylist at Bottega Veneta. Since 2015, I have split my time working between Lemarié and my own Koché brand.

Your Koché label has an artisanal approach with real mixture of different materials, embroidery, feathers, traditional techniques and streetwear aesthetics...

Yes, I love contrasts and mixing materials in my collections. Koché takes as much inspiration from contemporary art as the people I meet in my environment, on the street and when I travel. The Koché style has no limit or unique principle, and allows dialogue between different worlds, such as haute couture and sports for example.

We are in 2018: the idea of femininity has evolved a lot. How would you define it?

I want to make clothes that make women feel beautiful, strong and dynamic. It is possible for a woman to wear a football shirt with a fashion twist.

What did you like about the idea of a collaboration with La Redoute?

I like the story of La Redoute. This collaboration is an incredible opportunity to introduce my brand to a new audience. Being able to propose Koché locker-room style clothes with a different price positioning is very precious for me. Thanks to La Redoute, Koché will be accessible to a greater number of people.

How did you build the collection and what influenced you?

The idea of this collection is to create a wardrobe for every day that re-interprets the classic pieces of Koché, in a casual sportswear spirit. A femininity that mixes couture and streetwear.

Creativity, cultural mixing and modernity are your hallmarks... What is the piece of the collection that most symbolises your style?

Without hesitation, the dress POLO. This silhouette is strong and at the same time, feminine and comfortable.

After a PSG collection, another "Science Fiction", and finally this collaboration with La Redoute, what are your next projects?

There are so many I’d have a hard time listing them all... I have projects in Asia, Europe and in America... and all remains confidential. I like to move Koché in very different contexts. Collaborate, travel, discover: that’s what guides my creation. I like being constantly on the move!
