How to Style Your Uni Room

Heading off to uni next month? Here’s how to make your new place feel like home…

Going off to university is such an exciting time, but it can feel really daunting, too. Moving away from home, rocking up in a new city, making friends and living with housemates – it’s A LOT!

It’s totally normal to feel anxious about such a big step, but there are lots of things you can do to make the transition easier… and the most fun one is decorating your new digs. Whether you’re moving into a shared house or uni halls, a few new additions will make your space feel much more homely.

Pick your colour scheme

Do you want your room to be warm and cosy? Sleek and stylish? Clean and minimalist? Have a browse through Pinterest to get some ideas and start building a colour scheme – right now we’re loving mint and white for a fresh feel or royal blue with gold accents to make a strong statement.

Create your ‘nest’

Your bedroom will become your sanctuary while at uni – a quiet space you can retreat to when you need a bit of time to yourself, or somewhere to hole up when Fresher Flu hits! Make the bed the focal point of your room with a duvet cover to match your colour scheme – we love this simple hexagon style, and this leafy printed version is cool and calming.

Choose matching pillows and then add detail with contrasting cushions – this monochrome style is totally on-trend, while this green velvet beauty brings a touch of luxury. And who can resist a cute cactus print? Not us!

The final step in creating your nest is to add a cosy throw – perfect for wrapping yourself up in on a rainy Sunday afternoon. This cashmere and lambswool mix is oh-so soft, but if you’re looking for something more budget friendly, this cotton and wool version is also a winner.

Add accessories

The one thing that’ll make your uni room feel most like home is character. Photos, artwork and trinkets will bring your personality into the space and remind you of good times with friends and family – essential for any happy home!

This wall-mounted photo holder is perfect for a uni room, as you can easily switch up the photos on display – start with snaps of memories from back home and then add in new friends and experiences as your first year gets going. We also love these quirky paintings  to add a pop of colour above your bed or desk, and a macramé wall hanging  will create warmth and texture.

Finish off with a fluffy rug – a dark shade like this is easy to keep clean, while this cheap and cheerful style comes in an array of chic colours.
