Stuck for what to do on NYE? It’s the biggest party night of the year, but the pressure to have the Best Time Ever can often lead to let-downs… a tacky nightclub, a greasy kebab and a very expensive taxi home, anyone?
The key to having a great New Year’s celebration is careful planning, surrounding yourself with great people and doing something you really enjoy – if dancing till dawn is not your thing, don’t do it! Here are a few of our fave ways to welcome in the New Year, from big, banging parties to more casual affairs.
The board games night
If you’re the competitive type, a board games night is the way to go. Gather the gang for a night of games – keep it simple with savoury snacks, takeaway pizza and cheap fizz, and bust out some more unusual games to impress your guests. We love Linkee, Settlers of Catan, Codenames and Pandemic.
The local party
Getting home is one of the biggest NYE stresses – so why not look for local events instead? The village barn dance, pub fireworks display and even a church hall disco can be great ways to party with friends – all you really need is freeflowing drinks and cheesy party tunes! Check your local Facebook page for details of what’s on.
The big club night
If it’s a proper party you’re looking for, a well-known club night is guaranteed to be good fun. Book your tickets in advance, plan your outfit carefully and make sure you’ve got your taxi home sorted. Then all that’s left is to crack those glosticks and go for it!
The quiet night in
Staying in for New Year’s Eve doesn’t have to mean a lonely meal for one and crying into your Chardonnay – if you’d rather stay cosy on the sofa then make it a night to remember with brand new PJs, all your favourite snacks, a line-up of great films and some homemade cocktails. Don’t forget to set your alarm for midnight so you can watch the fireworks from your window!
