Declutter after Christmas

Anyone else currently sitting in a pile of wrapping paper, surrounded by boxes, wondering how on earth you’re gonna fit all your lovely new things into your house? First world problems, we know. But the struggle is real!

After Christmas it’s easy to feel overwhelmed by ~stuff~ everywhere, but luckily January is a great time to tackle things head-on with a full declutter. Here are our top tips for making space (in your home and your head) this month…

One in, one out

If you were lucky enough to get lots of lovely presents for Christmas, you can use a ‘one in, one out’ system to keep everything in order. So if you got some lush new slippers? Donate the old ones to charity. Cool new water bottle? Recycle the old one. Gorgeous new handbag? See if any of your friends want your old one. Not only will you create space for your new things, but the gift of giving will make you feel great, too!

Stylish storage

It’s much easier to sort and store your stuff when you’ve got a place to put everything… and even better if that place is pretty, too! We love these pom pom storage baskets – perfect for keeping bits and bobs neat, tidy and out of sight. They’re also ideal for kids’ rooms with an overflow of toys.

Keep to categories

For things like skincare, makeup, clothes and shoes, using categories can help keep things in order and ensure you don’t have multiples of the same thing. Use plastic tubs to sort into groups like moisturisers, cleansers and nail polish, and colour-coded hangers to keep your dresses separate from your blouses, etc.

Do a donation run

Think January is too early for a spring clean? We’re here to tell you, you’re wrong! Clearing out your wardrobes, toy cupboards and whatever’s lurking in the garage will create loads of space and give your home that cool minimalist vibe. Donate the best bits to charity and recycle as much as you can.
