Balzac Paris X La Redoute Collections

The elegant, timeless and responsible brand, chosen by La Redoute

Founded online in 2011, Balzac Paris has enjoyed huge success. Chrysoline de Gastines, the brand’s artistic director and co-founder, tells us about her homeware and fashion collection for La Redoute – a winning combination of a subtle vintage vibe, perfect style, and simplicity.

You’ve decided to call this collection Simone. Is that a nod to the writer Simone de Beauvoir?

Simon de Beauvoir’s words gave us the inspiration we needed to add a new twist to the brand’s iconic pieces. That’s what gives the collection its dynamic, its freshness and its spontaneity. It’s all very romantic, just like the white blouse. We have also created an exclusive floral print that reflects Balzac Paris perfectly. The spirit of the brand, with its blend of a fresh take on vintage, timelessness, and items you can mix throughout the seasons, is captured here in a few items.

Is this collaboration with La Redoute a bit like going back to your beginnings?

We are from Lille originally and La Redoute has been part of the “landscape” since we were children. You could even say that we are fans of the catalogue! This collaboration is a perfectly logical step for us. La Redoute has genuinely sought us out for who we are. In addition to this affinity, we feel a sense of the same creative desire. It’s truly wonderful. Every item reflects our wishes and requirements. The proof of this is that everything has been made in Europe – something we feel very strongly about at Balzac Paris. La Redoute truly responds to designers’ personalities and wishes.

What is your favourite piece in the collection?

Without hesitation, it has to be the white dress with its seaming details, frills, different fabrics, and lace. It encapsulates our DNA so well and is a classic Balzac Paris dress.

The collection also includes a set of bed linen. Why did you want to design this? And how does it fit into the world of Balzac Paris?

I am really drawn to the world of interior decoration; it’s very closely bound with the world of fashion. The way someone decorates their home often reflects their tastes, feelings and dress sense! I get great pleasure from “dressing” my home, hunting down bits and pieces and mixing them together. The print we have created here is really special because it looks good either as clothing or bed linen! It sets the tone of an outfit but also an interior. The pattern is striking but classic and it fits well in a range of settings! At Balzac Paris, we give pride of place to our prints. Our collaboration with La Redoute is an opportunity to showcase an art form we hold dear, in both wardrobes and homes!
