Hi all, itʼs Hayley from Frock MeIʼm Famous /www.frockmeimfamous.com here! Weʼve recently had our kitchen renovated and we opt to loose some of our top cupboards and replace them with open shelves.
So many people advised us against loosing the cupboards as they said weʼd loose too much space but weʼve managed to fit everything onto our shelves, and I personally think it looks great. Weʼve opened up the kitchen so much more; it looks bright; airy and bigger than when we had the cupboards (always trust your gut instinct when it comes to decorating and try not to focus too much on other peoples opinions if you know what you want - youʼll make it work!).

For our open shelves we picked the Hiba Oak Shelves as I love the oak look and they match our worktops perfectly - Iʼm so chuffed with how they look and think we definitely made the right decision in switching. I wanted to put together my top five tips on styling open shelves if you have them but are stuck on the styling, or are thinking of having them. I hope this post helps you embrace open shelves - they really can look beautiful and complete a kitchen.

I wanted to put together my top five tips on styling open shelves if you have them but are stuck on the styling, or are thinking of having them. 1.) My first tip would be when it comes to your crockery and glass wear; opt for practical but something that also looks nice. If youʼre going to decorate your open shelves, itʼs always nice to use decorative pieces that compliment your shelves.
2.) Use fresh flowers - nothing quite finishes a kitchen light a fresh bunch of flowers does it?! I adore sunflowers, theyʼre my favourite flowers as I love the brightness of them - they brighten up any room and theyʼre working wonders in our kitchen!
3.) Add interest with height and decorative objects! If youʼre styling up your shelves then remember to have a little fun with it, it doesnʼt have to be all practical. Are some prints, picture frames, decorative objects and plant pots - used varied shapes and heights to add some interest to your shelves.
4.) Opt for a colour scheme - weʼve mainly used white, grey and dark blue / black in our kitchen so we tried to follow the colour scheme through when it came to styling our shelves. Iʼve added pops of colour with the sun flowers and greenery to add some new colours and textures, but to create a concise look with the rest of your kitchen - keep your colour theme consistent and use 3-4 colours when it comes to styling your shelf!
5.) My last tip would be to add some greenery / dried flowers! For me adding greenery really does finish a shelf off perfectly, it adds colour, texture and a little nature to what could be quite a dull storage shelf! I picked up some new plants & dried flowers the other day for the shelves and I love how they compliment the styled shelves!
Would you consider open shelves in your kitchen? Do you like this style?
