Summer is here and it’s time to think about outdoor dining. Here, lifestyle blogger @MonicaBeatrice shares her tips for creating a stylish and sociable space.
There are rare few things I enjoy as much as hosting friends in the summertime. A much beloved group of people, a feast of food and an occasion rumbling with conversation and laughter. To me, that’s what summer, and its opportunities for dining together, is all about.
I lucked out with a husband who loves to cook, so I get the chance to indulge in my love of laying a beautiful table. Nothing too polished or match-y, but a table full of texture, neutrals and accents of colour, true to my love of the Mediterranean.
As such, I’m excited to share my La Redoute summer dining edit—a collection of pieces I’ve chosen for curating a simple, stylish summer table. La Redoute is a consistent go-to of mine for elegant, contemporary homeware at an affordable price point, and this summer edit goes to show just why!
Layering Tablecloths
A neutral patterned tablecloth is the perfect foundation upon which to build your summer tablescape. Soft green is one of my favourite oft-overlooked neutral hues.
Thin linen table runners creates a helpful focal point down the centre of your table. I like to use mine to guide the placement of all other items, large salad bowls placed in the middle, and all plates and cutlery either side.
Woven textures are a simple way to add interest to a table setting. They remind me of Menorca, the beautiful Balearic island I got on married a few years ago.
Rustic natural napkin rings are a low-effort way to add more detail to your table setting, simply slip the ring on and you’re good to go!
I have two boxes full of fabric napkins at home, not only do they add a sense of occasion to a table setting, they also cut down on paper waste as you can wash them use after use. I like to mix and match my table cloth and napkins, choosing colours which are harmonious but not necessarily the same.
Outdoor Dining Crockery and Glassware
Beautiful dinnerware will last you a lifetime, if you look after it! Organic shapes and interesting textures, like these stoneware pasta bowls, elevate the whole tablescape.
I love to serve dinner family-style, with salads and dishes being passed around the table; large serving bowls with a Lagos twist are an essential.
Small snack bowls come in so handy! I use mine for seasonings, like sea salt and cracked black pepper, these charming crackled bowls are perfect for dipping oils for breads.
Short stem glasses are so versatile, you can use them for wine or water. They remind me of eateries tucked into sleepy side-streets from holidays gone by.
Anchor your table setting with precious-looking cutlery. I love to use gold-toned cutlery for special occasions.
