Update your garden party wardrobe

Garden meet-ups are back on – woohoo! We’re so excited to welcome our friends and family back into our gardens, but after a long, cold winter, our wardrobe needs a little updating. Puffer jackets, woolly hats and sturdy boots don’t exactly say ‘spring chic’, do they?

With the weather warming up and the days getting longer, we’re entering peak garden party season and every good host knows a kick-ass outfit will make you the star of the show. Just like power-washing the patio and mowing the lawn (stay with us here), sprucing up your spring wardrobe is all part of the garden party prep. Here are our top picks for your ultimate hostess outfit…

Find your perfect floral

When it comes to garden party dressing, it’s all about the fabulous florals. Whether you’re into the ditsy, super-feminine style or something more bold and graphic, a fresh floral print is perfect for your garden gathering.

For a light, sweet and totally floaty look, we’re loving this ruffled floral print wrapover dress. If you’re after something that packs a bit more punch, try this bright, bold floral blouse or this floaty skirt, which is giving us tropical vibes.

Need a sleeker, more pulled-together style? This chic jumpsuit is pretty and practical, while this embroidered cardi will mix perfectly with your fave jeans.

Mix with block colour basics

If you don’t fancy head-to-toe florals, mixing in some block colours is a great way to break up a detailed print and add a little freshness.

These cool linen cargo trousers are a brill alternative to jeans – super comfy, totally timeless and they mix perfectly with all things floral. When the sun is really shining, we love a pair of easy, breezy shorts like this sage green pair, which are simply stylish with a floral blouse.

If you prefer your florals in the form of accessories, a crisp white cotton dress will make those flashes of pattern really pop. And this sunshine yellow top has taken the number 1 spot on our wish list!

Add in accessories

Now you’ve found the perfect mix of florals and block colours, you can build your outfit by adding accessories to create that extra detail.

A jaunty straw hat is an absolute must when the sun’s shining, and we love the Parisian styling on this one. You might only be going as far as your back garden, but who says you don’t need a bag for the journey? Not us! This square rattan style is super chic, while this round crossbody version is handy for stashing your stuff while entertaining.

Finish off with a cheerful printed scarf, either in your hair or around your neck, for a little spring flair.

Finish with your feet

When you’ve spent so much time putting together the perfect spring outfit, don’t ruin it by throwing on your old trainers or last year’s scuffed sandals – treat those feet!

If you’re lucky enough to snag a salon appointment, show off that fresh mani/pedi in these beautiful flat woven sandals – perfect for padding about on grass. Need a bit of height? These block colour wedges give that lifted look without heels that sink into soil, and we’re loving this simple nude style.

And of course, if trainers are totally your thing – go for a pair with a floral makeover
