All about:
The Petit Bateau brand is an integral part of the French textile industry. Its origins date back to 1893, when Pierre Valton set up an underwear workshop in Troyes. He produced mainly undershirts and boxer shorts. It was his son who invented the famous "petite culotte" in 1918. Until then, underwear had legs. He decided to name the new underwear Petit Bateau after the song "Maman les p'tits bateaux qui vont sur l'eau ont-ils des jambes?" ("Do little boats on the water have legs?"). The brand was registered in 1920 and was a success, although it didn't really take off until after the Second World War. Petit Bateau knickers are no longer the only emblematic product of the brand, which also designs T-shirts and a wide range of clothing for men and women, and has strengthened its babywear offering. The brand has even branched out into footwear with the iconic Petit Bateau rain boot.
