Make the most of your Christmas party dress

Aaaah, the classic Christmas party. Getting together in big groups to eat, drink, dance and hug feels like another lifetime, right? Next year, guys – next year!

Christmas parties may not be a thing in 2020, but we’re still loving a proper party dress… we just have to get creative with how we wear it! Here are some ideas for making the most of your glam garms this festive season.

Pick your party dress

The good thing about party dresses is they transcend trends. We guarantee anything velvet, metallic and/or floaty will look good Christmas after Christmas… so if you fancy treating yourself to a new dress this year, go for it! It’ll still look 100% in 2021, when you can wear it in front of other people.

With that in mind, we’ve chosen three timeless dresses to style for at-home celebrations this year, and keep for proper parties in the future. Choose from the Metallic Midi, the Ethereal White or the Jewel Velvet. Gorgeous!

Wear it 2020-style

Now you’ve got your dress, it’s time to make it work for your 2020 celebrations. Which mostly means layers, layers and more layers! We love a sparkly cardi to slip on with your dress, or even a glitzy jumper  to pop over the top. If you don’t want to hide your dress under a knit, why not add one beneath it – this fine knit polo neck is perfect for making a low neckline a bit cosier.

Usually we’d recommend some sheer tights to keep your legs warm for winter parties… but we all know tights are not the most comfortable things to wear. So this year, we’re going for leggings. Not the most glamorous, we know… but if you’re Zoom partying, no one will ever know! Pop on a plain black pair and be smug in your warmth and comfort.

Heels? No thanks. One of our fave trends of 2020 is delicate dresses paired with big, stompy boots, and we’ll be embracing that look to the max for our virtual parties. We love this buckled pair, and this patent style has gold details to give them that festive feel.

You might not have a jam-packed social calendar this Christmas, but with a few tweaks there are plenty of opportunities to wear your fave party dress. Go forth and get glam!
