As the nights draw in, it’s time to think about refreshing the bedroom to make the most of a relaxing night’s sleep. Here, Michaela from @mishkashoe tells us all about her bedroom style. How to do a mini seasonal bedroom refresh
I know that the bedroom is probably one of the most important rooms in the house, but we tend to focus on them less than our main living rooms. Maybe it’s because we are the only ones that get to see them? Whatever it is, we should make the bedroom as relaxing as possible, especially with the darker and colder evenings that are around the corner. If you know me well, you know I like a good refresh, and this season at La Redoute, it’s all about layers and textures, so here are some tips on how you can make some affordable changes and make your room feel brand new again without any major investments.
DECLUTTER THE BEDROOM
Tip 1: Switch it Up and Create a New Focal Point!
Before moving things around, have a think if there is anything that you are not particularly using, or you no longer need. An old chair or a clunky piece of furniture can be easily removed and by decluttering your room it can feel a little more spacious and airier.
INVESTMENT PIECES FOR THE BEDROOM
Tip 2: Mix & Match
I am a strong believer in mixing and matching textures and tones. When it comes to furniture opting for a bedroom set may seem easier and simpler, but by mixing up different designs it allows you to express your personality and make your bedroom yours. Investing in a key piece will change the feel of the whole room. This natural wooden bench creates a focal point and can be used for storage beneath with baskets, or just as a restful spot to sit.
NEW SEASON BED LINEN
Tip 3: Refresh your Bedding and Cushions
One of the quickest and the most effective changes you can make is to upgrade your bedding and switch around your decorative cushions/ blankets and linen throws. Don’t forget, layers are key, especially when you want to feel all cosy, warm and yet still very calming. I absolutely love opting for linen textures at this time of the year, and the Elina duvet collection really fits the bill. Keeping the bedding simple and light will allow you to add tones and texture by introducing a bit of colour and pattern with your cushions and throws. I’ve chosen the Ava tufted cotton cushion cover to bring that little variety that I love. Don’t be scared to add contrast and bring your bedroom to life!
CLEVER LIGHTING
Tip 4: Goodbye Light Nights, Hello Seasonal Lighting
Don’t underestimate the power of the lighting. Ceiling pendants are not enough. Especially with the darker evenings, creating a relaxing atmosphere and inviting bedroom, the right amount of lighting is the key element. The quickest way to make an impact is to add bedside lamps and wall lights. I love to read in bed and this Voltige contemporary articulated wall light can be angled in multiple directions so it is the ideal option for my room.
BEDROOM RUGS
Tip 5: New Rug, New Room
My biggest weakness when it comes to home décor is rugs. I believe no room is finished without a rug, especially in a bedroom. Rugs are also fantastic for pulling the whole room together and having a big impact. Get creative with the pattern and textures, and if you are adventurous enough, why not go for the option of layering one on top of the other for a more luxurious and relaxed feel. This beautiful abstract design is just one of many I could have picked from the extensive rug collection at La Redoute, I love so many of them! We’ve loved seeing how Michaela has styled her bedroom ready for the winter season.
