Get the look - Scandi kitchen

Kitchen looking a bit cluttered and outdated? Need a new kettle and a bit of a sort-out? We’ve got just the trend for you. Scandi-inspired kitchens are everywhere right now – think calming colours, soft textures, rustic finishes and simple, stylish accessories. For 2021, we’re moving away from the patterned tiles and luxurious units that have dominated the kitchen scene and welcoming a more down-to-earth vibe.

Choose your colours

If you’re going for a full kitchen refresh, start by selecting shades that work for the overall look. The Scandi kitchen is all about off-white walls with pops of earthy colour like sage green and mustard yellow. If you’re tiling, go for the classic metro shape to keep things simple.

Take on texture

Adding textures to your kitchen space will help bring warmth and detail to those simple shades. We love these linen teatowels in a range of earthy hues – hang them up to contrast with white walls. Wood pieces are another great way to bring a homely feel to your space, and this etched pizza board will look great leaning against your tiles.

Update your appliances

Nothing kills a minimal Scandi vibe like a big ugly microwave or rubbish old kettle – in a perfect world, we’d hide everything away for clear surfaces and plenty of zen, but that’s not realistic for an everyday kitchen. So instead, swap your old appliances for sleek, stylish new ones, like the Nordic range from Swan. We love this green microwave and the matching kettle with warm wooden details

If you’re in the market for new pots and pans, this retro style will look great hanging up or stacked on display.

Finishing touches

The key to an authentic Scandi kitchen is in the detail. You don’t need to redecorate your entire kitchen to get the look – just choose a few well-placed pieces to totally change the feel of your space. This cane bar chair is a great example and will bring that warm, natural style even against a dark countertop. The Scandis love clever storage, and this wall-mounted unit has a touch of industrialism that works so well with that minimal look . We’re also totally into this seagrass light fitting to bring elements of the outdoors in. Light a few candles, serve up a hearty stew and you could be dining in Sweden!
