Half term is nearly here (already!) and if you’re in the market for a break, it’s time to get it booked. We know, at this time of year you might be pining for reliable sunshine and a good old toe wriggle in golden sands, but who needs air travel with little ones in tow? We’re channelling calm and cosy this Autumn and that’s why we’re staying on the British Isles and snuggling up – who says you have to travel far for the trip of a lifetime?
Whitby, Staithes and the North Yorkshire Coast
Tuck yourself a little in-land between rolling hills or bag yourself a fisherman’s cottage complete with sea view, the North Yorkshire coastline offers dramatic panoramas, a slice of tranquillity and fun for all the family. Wind your way around the higgledy-piggledy houses and streets of Staithes and spend an afternoon whale spotting and rock-pooling. Don’t forget a Dinosaur Coast scavenger hunt for fossils and fool’s gold!
Head to Whitby for awarding winning fish and chips at The Magpie Café, before getting a little eerie with a Halloween visit to the Abbey, made famous for inspiring Bram Stoker’s Dracula. Once you’re suitably spooked, there’s the long stretch of Blue Flag beach to enjoy and a trip on the North York Moors Railway… the stuff childhood memories are made of! Hot, fresh donut? Don’t mind if we do.
The New Forest
If Autumn is your family’s fave, we’d bet you’d love a trip to Hampshire’s New Forest National Park. For the kids, there’s a chance to spot the oh-so-cute pint-size New Forest ponies, while the rest of the family drinks in those autumn colours, falling leaves and glorious low hanging sunshine. With wild rivers and secluded woodland to adventure in, as well as quaint towns and top-notch food and drink, it’s the much-needed peaceful break before things get crazy for the festive season.
And when you’re bored of all that walking, cycling, riding and exploring in untouched nature… (as if!) there’s always Peppa Pig World.
Countrywide Holiday Camps and Lodges
Holiday parks like Center Parcs (https://www.centerparcs.co.uk) are designed to take the stress out of planning a family (or multi-family!) holiday. So, if you’re looking for organised fun for lots of different tastes, maybe with a few pets along for the ride, a park could be your answer.
The UK has plenty to choose from, from caravanning and camping with Park Resorts (https://www.parkdeanresorts.co.uk/), to luxury lodges with built in hot tubs. There’s a something to float most boats. We love Aria Resorts (https://www.ariaresorts.co.uk), which are dotted across the country, for sports, spa days and everything from quizzes and magicians to mini discos for the brood.
