Is it really half term already?! If you’re staring down the barrel of a week juggling kids, childcare and work, we feel you. Getting the balance right can be tricky, so we’re here to help with some fun, family-friendly activities to make your half term planning a little bit easier.
Visit a museum
Ok, we’re kicking things off with a spot of culture – there are loads of amazing museums across the UK and many of them are totally free. Find one near you here and see what’s on – there are plenty of special half term events taking place and there’s usually something to entertain all ages. Round your visit off with a hot chocolate in the café and you’ve cracked it!
Go to the cinema
Especially good if the weather’s playing up, a cinema trip feels like a real treat and the major chains host special showings just for children. And there are some great films out at the moment – The Lego Movie 2 and How To Train Your Dragon: The Hidden World are both top of our list.
Get on your bikes
We’re hoping for sunshine this half term, and as soon as those rays hit we’ll be out on our bikes. National Trust has a great cycle route search where you can filter by family-friendly trails – pack a picnic and make a day of it.
Try a YouTube experiment
There are loads of cool experiments on YouTube that you can try at home – grow edible crystals, set off a volcano or, everyone’s favourite, make your own slime! It might get a bit messy but if it keeps them busy for a few hours, we’re on board.
Treat them to a big day out
If you’ve exhausted all your free options, a trip to a nearby theme park, zoo or bowling alley is the way forward. Search for discount vouchers first to save yourself some cash, pack your own lunch and don’t forget to take plenty of photos. Oh, and have fun!
