Whether you’ve got a mini staycation planned, you are attending a wedding, or a going on a highly anticipated holiday what you’ll wear will be high on the agenda. But no matter whether you’re flying, driving or heading by train, packing efficiently is a must.
In that case what you’ll need is a capsule wardrobe: hardworking items that can be mixed and matched to cover every holiday scenario.

The day-to-night dress
A great capsule holiday wardrobe needs a minimal LBD that can be dressed up and down. A linen midi with a side split is a wise bet: it’ll keep you cool and chic by day, then becomes a sexy, sleek option for evening. Pair with canvas trainers and a sunhat for brunch by the beach, then with metallic heels and a beaded bag for cocktails.
The easy cover-up
A lightweight maxi (that handily takes up minimal luggage space when rolled up) is the ideal beach cover-up. The modest length will offer some much-needed coverage come afternoon, and it’s easy to stash it in your beach tote for a cheeky dip. The olive shade works nicely as a neutral, so throw it on over statement swimsuits.
The statement swimsuit
Speaking of which, if you’re on the hunt for a swimsuit that’s as comfortable as it is fashion-forward, you’d be hard-pressed to find one chicer than this. The towelling fabric is a huge trend this season, but the on-trend material and pastel shade is grounded by a classic, flattering fit.
The elevating earrings
The easiest way to elevate a simple look is with accessories: think a statement cuff, embellished hair accessories or oversized gold-tone hoops. With a minimal dress or top, wear your hair up and allow them to take centre stage. If you’re out and about for the day, pop them in your back to add a little glamour to your look come evening.
The printed tailored co-ord
Matching sets are big news this summer and will be a sartorial saviour if you’re trying to pack light: they look particularly good together for a punchy, summery look with wedge espadrilles and a basket bag. Separately, they really come into their own. Pair the shirt with denim cut offs and white slides, or wide-leg beige trousers and strappy mules. The high-waisted shorts are just as versatile - team with a grey T-shirt and Birkenstocks by day, and a silky cami and metallic sandals by night.
The dressy dress
If you’re heading abroad to celebrate a wedding, hen do or a big birthday, you’ll need a fabulous dress in your arsenal. This printed midi in suits-all green is the answer: wear with strappy white heels and a red lip for a look that’s just at home as it is at a beach wedding ceremony as a fancy bar.
The polished flats
A pair of leather flats that are comfy enough for a day of sightseeing, will take you to the pool for an afternoon dip, a fun lunch and then see you through to evening are a must pack. Ticking all those boxes is no mean feat but these tan leather flip flops do exactly that. See tan as the summery, just-as-versatile sister to black, and pair with everything.
