We honestly believe that a job interview is one of the most challenging fashion adventures you can embark on. Research shows that how you look, or at least how you feel about how you look, has a serious influence on your confidence level so if you’ve picked and repicked your outfit 4 times already, we totally get it.
Throwing Lockdown into the mix hardly helps, either. Who needs a few more unpredictable factors to add to your wobble factor? So, our advice: start with your outfit, and the rest will begin to feel a lot more manageable.
Don’t forget the dress code
Just because your interview isn’t face-to-face doesn’t mean the usual rules don’t apply. Do your research and work with what you know. If your future place of work (see what we did there) takes a smart casual approach, feel free to throw more casual items like a quality, well-fitting pair of jeans into the mix, balanced out by a smarter top half like this Long-Sleeved Boyfriend Shirt. But always remember to err on the side of caution, if in doubt, go for the smarter option – it’s better to be overdressed than too casual when you’re trying to impress.
We think the Odile Maxi Dress in Paisley Print is a reliable – loose and floaty, but business-like up top. Add the Balzac Paris x La Redoute Collections Oval Hair Clip for extra polish.
Comfort is confidence
Everybody knows that wearing something that makes you feel good can help you dazzle under pressure. Feeling relaxed and comfy is important, but only within reason. Dressing up for an occasion is also key in helping you rise to it. Remember that just because you’re on Zoom and your interviewer can’t see below the waist, doesn’t mean you can’t feel it. We suggest prepping from head to toe, taking just a few little at-home liberties. For an outfit that makes you feel like $1m and nails laidback style to perfection, we love the Striped Linen Mix Blazer with Tie Belt and matching Striped Wide Leg Trousers. Shrug these co-ords on over a simple black cami and you’ll feel and look the part, every time.
Consider colour
Making an impression is important, but you don’t want to distract your interviewer away from your solid credentials. Over Zoom you have even fewer ways to showcase all your skills so if you’re a colour or print enthusiast, it’s worth considering toning things down just a little. A more neutral colour up top with prints or brights on the bottom half is a great way to go to give them just a little taste of your personality without standing out for all the wrong reasons. Try a Cotton High-Neck Blouse with Lace Details paired with the Anne Weyburn Straight Cut Stretch Trousers in orange.
Don’t forget the details
Seeing as your feet are tucked away under the table, we get it if you want to skip the heels. You’re right, no one’s going to know if you’re wearing trainers… or even your slippers. But, like we said, for us interviews are 2/3 attitude, and a good pair of loafers make us feel like we can do anything we set our minds to. They’ll help your confidence shine out over the video feed and give you something cool to wear on your first day at the office.
Lastly, you probably haven’t been wearing much jewellery if you’ve been stuck inside for the last three months. Don’t underestimate the power of putting something shiny on, what you choose will not only look gorgeous but help to make you feel completely in control. Opt for a pair of Elements Honeycomb and Bee Silver and Yellow Gold Plated Earrings or clip on the Orla Keily Rose Gold Stem Leaf Bracelet.
