The key interiors trend that’s hot on Instagram right now and looks set to break into the mainstream? Dried flowers. We’re seeing our fave interiors influencers using dried blooms in everything from door wreaths to centrepiece displays.
Companies like The Happy Blossoms (@thehappyblossoms) are creating incredible rainbow bouquets using dried stems – perfect for that empty vase on your bedside table. And home bloggers like Leanne Walker (@leannelimwalkerhome) are recreating the look at home, with beautiful dried blooms to display indoors. Here’s how to give it a go yourself.
How to dry flowers
The easiest way to dry a bouquet is using the simple air drying technique. This works best on robust flowers like roses and if you can catch them before they fully bloom, even better.
- Start by removing leaves and excess foliage and trimming the stems of each flower. You can hang stems individually or gather them together with an elastic band to dry a full bouquet.
- Once you’ve prepped your flowers, hang them in a cool, dry, dark place – an unused cupboard or wardrobe is ideal. Using a length of string, tie the end of the stems to a coat hanger and let them hang upside down for two to three weeks.
- Once completely dry, spray with unscented hairspray to protect your blooms. Now they’re ready for display!
If you want to do it the easy way you can always buy some, pre-dried. We won't tell anyone! We've got a great selection to suit any home. Buy a mix of different ones and out together to make an amazing bouquet.
