Too many clothes but nothing to wear? One of the positive benefits of spending more time at home is the chance to get organised, spring clean and generally create some order.
Streamlining your wardrobe is a great place to start, it’s one of those jobs we’ve all meant to do at some point but never quite got round to so here are our tips for a successful wardrobe edit. Do them all at once or in stages over a few days if you prefer.
1. Choose your method
Taking all your clothes and accessories from your wardrobe helps you see exactly what you’ve got. Put them into piles i.e. trousers, shoes etc. and sort out the clothes you wear repeatedly - separating them from any that are damaged, too big/small or that you’ve never worn. This method helps you to work out new outfit combinations and you might even rediscover some forgotten gems!
If that feels overwhelming, start small and break down the task into small chunks over a few days, first your dresses, next the sock drawer etc.
2. Make your choices
It’s time to purge. Ask yourself questions such as Does this fit? Do I feel comfortable in this? Have I worn this in the last year? If the answer is no, assign the item to the donate, recycle or resell pile.
3. Work out what works for you
Group together the clothes you absolutely love and wear all the time, these are your heroes. You probably love these items because they suit you. Make a note of the style, neckline, dress length etc. as this will help you make successful purchases in the future. If you’re still unsure about what to keep or recycle/resell, see if any of the other items in your wardrobe would work well with your heroes.
4. Get organised
It's easier to stay organised if you can see what you’ve got. Invest in some space saving hangers,
drawer organisers and clothes bags/covers to maximise space and help stay on track.
