How to make Mother's Day 2021 special

Mother’s Day is fast-approaching and with the pandemic still ongoing and restrictions still in place, it could be quite a lonely day for many mums. Last year, Mother’s Day was one of the last things we celebrated before going into lockdown – who’d have thought we’d still be here, 12 months later? We certainly couldn’t have predicted it and even though the future looks a little brighter, the next few months will still be tough… especially for those separated from their families and unable to get together to celebrate all things Mum.

So for Mother’s Day 2021 we think the focus should be on spending time together, even if it’s only virtually. Time spent with loved ones is so precious, and it can still be special when it’s via Zoom or Facetime. Plus, some well-placed luxury gifts to go alongside the family time will make the day even better. Here are our ideas…

The Zoom Sunday lunch

If you’d usually be meeting up at a lovely restaurant to mark Mother’s Day, recreate the experience at home instead. Make sure your mum has absolutely no cooking to do by ordering a delivery service from your fave local, then get your family to each set their tables, dress up nicely and come together via video call as you eat. A beautiful new dinner set like this stoneware style is the perfect accompanying present.

The virtual flower arranging class

Florists have really adapted their services during pandemic times and many of them are offering virtual classes you can do with loved ones online. Get you and your mum booked in for flower arranging, wreath making or Easter basket creating and spend the afternoon faffing with florals! This beautiful ombre vase makes a great gift for her to display the results in afterwards. And if your mum is really not green-fingered… can we recommend a dried bouquet or faux orchid instead?

The online spa day

Aaaah, remember spas?! Getting wrapped up in a fluffy dressing gown, reclining in a dim room, slipping into warm, bubbly water, essential oils, hot stone massage, cucumber slices and plinky plunky music… amazing! We do love a spa day and we’ll be first in the queue when they reopen, but for now we’ll have to settle for a DIY version. Go in on the at-home treatments – fresh face masks, relaxing foot baths, whale sounds on Spotify and gossip via FaceTime. Send your mum the ultimate pamper package before the day itself – a cosy dressing gowncalming reed diffuserpretty PJs, crisp white slippers, and a premium face mask kit will all help create that luxurious spa vibe.

The at-home bottomless brunch

Bottomless brunching was just taking off before the pandemic hit – Sunday mornings spent with friends and family, prosecco and poached eggs in the sunshine, loving life and having a laugh. How we miss it! The bottomless brunch is really easy to recreate at home and is a great chance for mums who are feeling burnt out by pandemic life to let loose a little. Have a local café deliver your mum’s favourite breakfast – whether that’s a Full English, avo toast or a stack of pancakes with syrup – then jump on FaceTime to enjoy it together…. with the obligatory prosecco, of course! Turn up the tunes, have a good gossip and keep those glasses charged.

We love these elegant glass flutes to bring some sophistication to proceedings, and this cute leopard print scarf is the perfect accessory for a brunch date.

Cheers!
