Loads of people crowded together, hotdogs handed out willy-nilly, long queues for portaloos… yeah, Bonfire Night as we know it is definitely not happening this year!
But that doesn’t mean celebrations are totally off the cards – there are plenty of 5th November traditions you can adapt for Lockdown Life. Here are our suggestions for a banging Bonfire Night at home…
Tasty treats
Food is a big part of Bonfire Night, and the foodie experience is easy to recreate at home. Whip up some toffee apples, try your hand at parkin, get a warming stew on the go… and don’t forget the hot dogs! All quick, easy, winter warmers that you can enjoy inside or out in the garden.
Themed crafts
There are all sorts of cool crafty things you can do, either with kids or just for your own enjoyment! Why not make cardboard rockets, create a glowing bonfire, or bring a spinning Catherine wheel to life!
Poppin’ playlist
Ok, it’s a bit cheesy… but we’re totally loving the fire-themed playlists on Spotify right now. Relight My Fire? I’m On Fire? Sex On Fire? We’re here for them all. Mix the puns with some pop bangers, pump up the volume and have a little disco dance in your living room.
Turn off the lights
Not enough space to host your own fireworks display? Turn off the lights, pull open the curtains and watch the sky light up from the comfort of your sofa. You could even light some bonfire-scented candles – rich, smoky scents like this Cocoa and Sandalwood mix would be perfect.
Finally, fireworks
If you really want to get the Bonfire Night experience at home, you’ve gotta go for fireworks. Why not get the street involved by planning a timed display at each house, that you can watch from your gardens? Whether it’s just a few sparklers or a full-on display, make sure you follow all safety guidelines, keep distant and don’t go on too late. And have fun!
