Hi, my name is Jen and I live in Surrey with my husband and 3 children (all under 5 years old), so it’s a bit of a mad house here. I’ve always loved fashion so when I started my Instagram account @jenliujones I shared a lot of what the kids were wearing from organic brands like Frugi, Maxamorra and Piccalilly. For most of my professional career I worked in the natural and organic food industry so the transition from food to fashion was easy - I found myself excited to learn more about new fabrics, processes, stories - sharing my own outfits seamlessly connected me with more and more conscious brands.
Like most people, I’m not perfect and have rushed into trends in the past, but lockdown has proven we’re all taking a step back from these impulse buys and becoming more aware of where we’re investing our fashion pieces.
La Redoute is an amazing place for interiors and what I want to talk about today is their efforts in fashion. On the website you can quickly type in specific fabrics you want to wear such as ‘recycled’ or simply click the ‘Responsible Edit’ button in each department, including baby and menswear. You’ll also spot Responsible stickers on listings too. A huge range awaits you!
Here are my favourite picks this SS21 season. I hope you enjoy the inspo!
Lilac love! This jumpsuit is made from a cotton / lyocell mix which gives the end product a very smooth finish to touch. Lyocell is derived from wood pulp and a non-toxic solvent, with minimal water required during production making it a more environmentally-friendly alternative to viscose. You’ll often hear Lycocell referred to as Tencel and just so you know, it’s basically the same thing - Tencel is the brand name of a type of lyocell.
Due to lockdown weight I sized up to a size 12 and this fits perfectly. I find jumpsuits a bit tricky as some can be too long in the leg or too short in body so I recommend ordering a couple of sizes to be sure.
This jumpsuit is available in navy, but I picked the lilac colour to perk me up through spring – it’s honestly one of those garments that sparks joy!
Love this nautical look. You can’t go wrong with stripes and this organic cotton / modal combo is a classic wardrobe staple. I totally adore the cute ruffle sleeves and the ¾ length makes it practical for mum life as I regularly get my hands messy.
Modal is made from beech tree pulp and is often blended with other fabrics like cotton for added strength. In this case it’s been blended with organic cotton which is produced free from chemicals, pesticides, insecticides and GMOs.
I’ve paired this boat neck knit with some navy wide leg trousers. It’s a simple cotton / linen mix which is perfect for mild weather. This is my first time wearing paper bag waist trousers and I have to say I’m a convert to this style. It’s a great way to add detail to an outfit and the high waist adds a bit more length to my legs too. A word about sizing, these come up big. I originally ordered these in a size 12, have a size 10 (and I think I could have got away with a size 8 too) however the belt cinches the wait to just the right fit.
I have been searching for the perfect denim shorts as everything I see seems to be too short for my liking. These are high waist, a sturdy 100% cotton, and have rolled edging so you can adjust the length. I’m putting this out there - Best Shorts Ever - and come in a brushed black colour too! Be sure to size down in them.
This cashmere jumper is labelled a STANDARD 100 by OEKO-TEX® - a certified and controlled manufacturing process which meets the needs of consumers in terms of human ecology. Not as fluffy as my other cashmere jumpers which I was pleasantly surprised by, and is soooo soft! This colour is STUNNING too - it’s very easy to pick classic colours when investing in cashmere but I highly recommend this plum shade for a pop of colour. Even my husband has complimented me wearing it!
The mom jeans are made from organic cotton which as I mentioned before is free from chemicals, pesticides, insecticides and GMOs but also has minimal impact on biodiversity and the health of agricultural workers. It’s so useful to research these production processes to make informed fashion decisions. The mom style jeans are a new shape for me as I usually pick straight legs, but I am all for this super cool retro 80s look, especially in this grey colour which reminds me of what my mum used to wear when I was a kid.
You’ll notice every outfit has been worn with Veja V10 trainers and is a testament to how they go with every outfit! Vejas are an iconic brand combining ecological and sustainable materials with the V10 model symbolising their 10th anniversary.
If you’re between sizes like I am (UK5.5) I recommend sizing down. I found the size 5’s perfect for me but try ordering a couple of sizes to find your best fit. I absolutely adore these trainers and are comfortable from first wear (not suitable for people with wide feet though) but like many reviews the tongue can be stiff. I personally didn’t find this a problem but I’ve heard tips of moving the tongue to the side of your ankle helps to avoid rubbing.
Thanks for reading my guest spot on this fab blog and feel free to say hello to me over at @jenliujones
