Hello Hello! I’m Rich from @househomo and I’m here to talk to you about one of my favourite interior styles, Vintage Opulence. I love styling a space with pieces that tell a story and create a story among themselves and there’s no better way than plucking classic items straight from history! So, let’s get into it!
Fashion for the home
One of my main sources for inspiration is fashion runways, I always look to Prada, Craig Green, Richard Quinn, Versace and Schiaparelli. So many fab designers are reinterpreting house codes for the modern home and the shape of this piece is so fluid and gorgeous, it’s definitely one of those items that people will obsess over in your house for years to come!

Texture at home
Interior styling is all about layering texture and what better way than on the WALLS! This wallpaper looks so inviting, my only concern is that I’d never get anything done, I’d just be stroking the walls all day! The wavy texture catches the light in all different ways and adds a softness to the wall, which contrasts perfectly against a hard wooden chest of drawers and gold lamps.
For the full textural maximalist fantasy, you could layer it up with the Palmerial bedding too, and I love the idea of pairing such rich tones and textures together in one space.
Soft bed linen
I actually already own this bedding set so I’m totally biased, but it is an INCREDIBLE duvet cover; it’s so soft to the touch and the embroidery feels so expensive, it’s perfect for those cooler winter mornings when you just want to stay tucked up in bed with a coffee & read a book.

I’m firmly in the ‘there’s no such thing as too many cushions’ camp so when styling my bed I always go for a more is more approach. Try pairing the Palmeria duvet cover with a combo of these midnight blue shapey cushions with the pink Oriental birds cushions on top; dark blue and pink is a gorgeous combo & will simultaneously soften the block colour of the duvet whilst allowing you to bring additional pink and blue pieces into your bedroom decor. Both of these cushions will blend really well with most colour palettes so they can switch up to your sofa and back again!

Create mood lighting
I LOVE a statement lamp so this beauty went straight into my basket; if you have more lighting options you have, the more moods you can create within a space, plus the multiple gold ovals will catch the light and make for an amazing talking point, whatever the occasion. I love how it feels like it was plucked straight from a 1920’s speakeasy in New York and delivered direct to your door - and your heart.

Home accessories
One of my favourite things to style into a space are wild little surprises, pieces that maybe don’t fit the vibe at all or perhaps add a little nod to another room, which will give your whole space a sense of cohesion and a storyline. This crane head just does that; it’s so wild in every sense and would look amazing with a tiny little party hat on for your New Years Eve party. It also ties in really well with the oriental crane cushions, and harkens back to the time of gilded glamour in a fun, playful way.
Dress the walls
Artwork is all about self expression, even an empty space can be injected with personality with just one piece. Sticking with the birds from the cushions to the crane head, this Vintage Pelican artwork seamlessly connects the two whilst offering a gorgeous statement of its own. The painting is serene and calming so it can lend itself to every space, you [peli]can put it anywhere! My favourite art styling trick is to lean it against the wall on top of a shelf or table and style candlesticks or vases in front of it to create movement and a dialogue between the pieces.

Curves
If you have seen my mural work, you’ll know I loooove a curve, so this cylindrical accent table had me at hello. I’m obsessed with gold top rising above the zinc base, offering up your objects for your viewing pleasure. I’d definitely place some tiny things in the gap too, a little bum candle or tiny cactus so it feels like a secret treasure being kept safe under the golden disc.

Mirror, mirror
Last but not least, let’s talk mirrors. I’m a bit of a mirrorholic and cannot stop myself from buying a beautiful mirror if it crosses my path, but they serve multiple purposes; they make spaces look & bigger, they bounce light into a room AND they ensure you’re always looking your best, they’re a triple threat! I often paint murals around mirrors to centralise them and offer an intentional styling choice but this one is a mural in itself! All those gorgeous circles sat above a fireplace or next to an accent chair will be the perfect finishing touch for your space.
My final piece of advice for styling a room is lean in. Whenever you walk into a space, the most successful designs feel completely resolved and considered from door to floor and when you lean in fully to your concept and design, that’s when the space will feel the most resolved. When a person starts styling a room then pulls back, it always feels 50% done, unresolved or unsure, so set your vibe and lean into it!
