The Interiors world has become obsessed with curves, they reflect the natural world and offer a sense of comfort and soft ease. Here, Interiors stylist and expert Kiera Buckley Jones tells us how to interpret this beautiful trend in to our homes.
CREATE FOUNDATIONS
The basis of any successful room scheme is your key furniture pieces. For this trend invest in upholstered furniture with sweeping curvaceous lines to build the rest of your decoration around. Avoid any sharp edges. Wiggly lines are much more appealing, especially in seating.
Your sofa should feel like a cocoon, inviting and comforting as it wraps around you. The sofa is the largest piece of furniture in the room so treat it with respect, resist layering up with too many cushions and throws, as you want to see the shape exposed. This elegant example, the So’Home Faux leather 3-seater sofa with gold finish stainless steel legs is a perfect interpretation of the organic curves trend.
Mimic other organic forms such as pebbles, with a softy shaped accent chair like this Ada Buttoned Soft Armchair.
You can even reference the organic in how you arrange your furniture. The pieces should all face in together- as if a rock formation. Create balance by leaving negative space between each. Introduce low tables such as the Orion metal end table, placed in front or by the side for a relaxed layout.
COLOUR COMBINATIONS
This is a trend that is based on the shades as well as the shapes found in the natural world, so combine hues that you find together in nature. Stone, brown, ecru, and terracotta come immediately to mind. Then go deeper. Imagine a landscape and Introduce accent colours for punch like a plaster pink, clay, or a sky blue.
The rule is, if it doesn’t exist harmoniously in nature, it doesn’t appear.
SOFT MOOD LIGHTING
Create a sense of calm with low lighting. Install a wall uplighter, the woven frame of the AM.PM Canopee small wall light by E.Gallina in rattan and metal will create subtle dappled light.
While the vintage inspired AM.PM Funambule contemporary 2-arm wall light in metal should be hung behind a sofa or armchair to create directional light for reading.
INTRODUCE ARTWORK
Choose artwork that shows the hand of the artist and all those imperfections. Whether that’s in the inconsistency of the paint application or in slightly wonky lines.
Think beyond the walls. This art mobile with elliptical elements is a way to add interest and draw your eyes around the room. You can create a focal point by hanging over a dining table or sofa
TEXTURAL MOMENTS
Combine materials with a visceral quality, the rawer the better. Try accent cushions with 3-d tufting
with quirky rugs that feature irregular shapes or are oddly shaped themselves. An assault on the senses.
The perfect finishing touches
Select accessories with uneven surfaces, such as raw wood and hand thrown ceramics. Shapley vases, oblong crockery, and coloured glass will add depth to your decoration. The speckled surface of the AM.PM Leiria oval sand stone dish is reminiscent of the nuances of real stone.
The curvy So’Home 25cm green glass vase, will catch the sunlight beautifully to add a delicate rays across the room.
