Bianca Hall
French For Pineapple
I'm Bianca Hall, interiors obsessed and DIY lover. I live in North London with my husband and two children, where I'm perpetually decorating and reinventing our victorian home. With every changing colour experiments, alongside clever DIYs and room overhauls.
I’ve been known to create quite an extreme level of chaos in our home with all the coming and going of products and furniture for various jobs, and pretty constant room makeovers. In fact, recently I said to my husband that our house had reached ‘peak chaos’, which for me to admit, meant it really was absolute mayhem.
But it’s my working from home, and using the house as a studio reality, and I love my work so I wouldn’t have it any other way.
However, I do think it’s really important to have a space in my home that’s as free from the chaos of daily life as possible. Somewhere I can literally and metaphorically close the door on the day, zone-out and relax.
So even when everything else is in turmoil, I try to keep our bedroom relatively calm and uncluttered, and I think this makes for a quieter and more peaceful mind at the end of another busy day, and starts me off well in the mornings too.
In our bedroom, I try to create a bit of a sanctuary by doing a few things…
Whilst it’s by no means a child-free zone, I do ask our youngest to take any toys he brings in with him, out again when he leaves the room, and I surround myself with lots of natural fabrics and textures, keeping the palette quite limited, as this is what makes me feel calm, happy and relaxed.
I’ve chosen a selection of La Redoute products to give my room a mini-makeover, and to create a calm and happy space, with washed linen on the bed which is always a huge favourite of mine, as I love the crumpled laid back look of it, as well as the feel, as it’s cooling in summer, and cosy in winter. I’ve layered it up with plenty more texture in the form of this tactile reversible linen throw, Mongolian sheepskin cushions, and added a bit of pattern that compliments my headboard, with an embroidered cushion.
Creating a reading spot, or somewhere to just sit and ponder the day that’s been, or the day ahead, is also important to me (even if ‘reading’ means catching up on Instagram or reading a magazine – let’s be honest!), so this little rattan sofa is the perfect choice, and adds further natural texture too.
I’ve complimented it with a marble topped console, which is perfect for small spaces, whist providing a surface for displaying decorative pieces, perfumes and a scented candle, and these multi-functional sculptural wooden stools, that also act as side tables for a cup of tea.
Of course no room is complete without some greenery, which really does have a calming effect, and this mid-century inspired pot works so well with any style. as does this timeless concrete pot.
I’ve stuck to a palette of black, white, grey and beige with the exception of the natural greens and this crackle glaze vase which looks equally lovely with or without the addition of flowers, and although it’s a limited palette, all the texture means it’s anything but boring, and it all comes together to create the perfect happy space.
