All about:

Originating in Asia, tea has conquered the palate of Europeans, starting with our British colleagues. Indeed, tea time is a veritable institution. In France, around 6 out of 10 people drink tea. To enjoy the full flavour of this beverage, it's worth investing in a teapot and accessories that will bring out all its aromas.

Which teapot to choose for tea?

The first thing you need to make a good cup of tea is a teapot. This vessel is used to collect or boil hot water.

Which teapot shape to choose?

In general, there are two preferred shapes for teapots. The Chinese teapot is slightly taller and rounded on its belly, while the Japanese teapot is flatter and wider.

Beyond the pure aesthetics of the product, you can choose your teapot according to the shape of the tea leaves you're going to place either in the infuser or in a tea bag.

Which material to choose?

Teapots come in a variety of materials:

  • Terracotta: retains the aroma and flavour of all the teas brewed inside;
  • Cast iron: very aesthetic, they are very fashionable, especially in the Japanese style;
  • Porcelain: a timeless classic;
  • Stainless steel: these teapots are easy to care for and stand up to wear and tear.

Depending on the shape and type of your teapot, you may be advised to use an infuser or a tea filter.

Cup, glass or mug?

The container in which to drink your tea is also an essential accessory.

The cup

A great classic, the teacup, with or without its service, is generally used for drinking tea. It can be decorated or quite simple in black or white. Economical, the tea cup is available at all prices.

The glass

Taller than the cup, the glass also offers greater capacity. Thanks to its heat-conducting nature and lack of handle, the glass is recommended for cold beverages such as infusions or thirst-quenching iced teas.

The mug

The mug is the largest container. Practical, useful and very sturdy, it's highly prized because it allows you to enjoy your tea without having to serve yourself constantly.

What's more, the mug is generally thicker and therefore less fragile than a cup or glass.

Thanks to its size and weight, there's less risk of it tipping over.

Prepare a real tea ceremony

To prepare for the tea ceremony, you'll need to make sure you have all the accessories you'll need (teapots, cups, filter, infuser...). In front of your guests, you will take the quantity of tea required for your gathering.

For Asians, tea has spiritual and healing virtues. Take the time to feel this reverence in your every gesture. When the tea is hot and has steeped for the specified time, serve it to your guests and enjoy.

It's a time for sharing and a great opportunity to get together over your favorite drink.
