What To Wear When You're Travelling

Heading to the airport for your holidays soon? Make sure you’re cool and comfy on the plane with our tips.

Have you ever seen a photo of Victoria Beckham at an airport? She’s always impeccably groomed, in her trademark heels and sunnies, wearing a form-fitting dress or super-skinny jeans. How does she do it? And more importantly, why?!

We all know airports and planes are uncomfortable places – there’s never enough space, it’s hot and sweaty and everyone just wants to get to where they’re going. Add a couple of hours’ delay and a pair of too-tight jeans to the mix and you’ve got a recipe for disaster. No, thanks!

That doesn’t mean that you should rock up to Heathrow in your pyjamas, though. You can do comfortable and chic in one outfit – just go for loose layers, neutral shades and simple accessories.

Loose, lightweight layers

A jersey maxi will keep you cool when you arrive at your holiday destination, and doubles up as a handy blanket if you get stuck in a freezing cold, air-conditioned airport for hours. Team it with a dark-coloured t-shirt or vest and a long-line cardigan you can bundle up and use as a headrest on the plane.

Go for slip on sandals you can remove quickly at security if needed, and take a pair of socks in your bag – no one wants bare feet on a plane! And never underestimate the usefulness of a lightweight cotton scarf, which can double up as everything from a pillow to a towel in an emergency. Stick to minimal jewellery as you might have to remove it at security, but keep your sunglasses close by to hide tired travelling eyes when you touch down (that’s one thing we’re with Posh Spice on!).

Finally, take a roomy tote bag with plenty of compartments so your travel documents, headphones, currency, lip balm (and any other travel essentials) are easy to find. An easy, breezy holiday outfit that works just as well for drizzly Britain as it does for sunny Spain.

To make things a little easier, we've selected some of our favourite pieces for comfortable travelling and put them into one place for stress-free shpping. You can shop travelling outfits here.

Bon voyage!
