The best books to curl up with this month

One thing 2020 has given us – plenty of time to catch up with our reading! As the nights draw in, there’s nothing we’d rather do than curl up in front of the fire (or a few candles) and read a good book. Netflix and chill? Nah, it’s all about the page-turners!

Here are five amazing reads to get stuck into this month.

Hungry, Grace Dent

The ultimate comfort food in book form – Grace Dent celebrates all things warm and bolstering in Hungry, which explores everything from Heather Shimmer Rimmel lipstick to her dad’s spaghetti. A wonderfully reassuring read. Out 29th October.

Loud Black Girls, various

With innovative essays from Candice Brathwaite, Kuchenga, Sophia Thakur that tackle everything from Black Panther to activism, Loud Black Girls is a must-read… not least for the inspiring foreward from Booker winner Bernardine Evaristo. Out now.

Ghosts, Dolly Alderton

This is Alderton’s debut fiction novel, and we’re into it. A modern day rom-com about life going wrong, romance that doesn’t quite work out and a whole load of real-life relevancy. Loved it. Out now.

In Their Shoes, Jamie Windust

Frank, funny and full of wisdom – this exploration of self-acceptance and self-love by non-binary writer Windust is packed with anecdotes we can all relate to, and an important message about being true to yourself. Out now.

Pandora’s Jar, Natalie Haynes

The follow up to A Thousand Ships, Haynes explores the women of Greek myths and their stories and motivations in Pandora’s Jar. Incredibly detailed - if you want to know more about Medea, The Amazons, Penelope and Phaedra, you’ll find it here.
