Christmas décor trends for 2022

‘Tis the season to decorate! Christmas is just around the corner and we’re starting to think about our interior approach to the season – traditional and cosy? Opulent and a little bit OTT? Full on festive complete with faux snow and a full reindeer ensemble in the garden? So many options!

We’ve been looking into the Christmas décor trends for 2022 to make sure our interiors are on-point and Instagrammable (as well as giving us that warm and fuzzy feeling, of course). Here are the six festive décor themes we’re loving right now, and how to recreate them in your home in time for the Big Day.

Festive Wonderland

Creating a festive wonderland in your home is all about embracing the fun, playful side of Christmas. We’re talking cute and kitschy tree decorations, spray snow on your windows and cheerful Christmas slogans.

Look out for bright colours, too – baby pinks and minty greens work really well with this trend, with splashes of contrasting red. Modern silhouettes will keep the theme fresh and sleek – these Christmas tree ornaments have an architectural style that mixes perfectly with the bright colours.

To up the playfulness, we love these quirky polar bears with fluffy collars – so cute and cosy!

And to take the theme right across your home, these amazing festive leopard bedsheets will add a touch of festive fun to your bedroom.

Finish off with these pink sparkly candles, which will look fab in a contrasting black candle holder.

Christmas Cabin

If you love a super traditional, warm and cosy Christmas vibe – the Christmas Cabin trend ticks all the boxes. It’s about natural textures and classic colours, chunky blankets in checked prints, stag motifs and wooden tree decorations.

To really embody the trend, think about those cosy log cabins in the depths of winter – candles flickering, reds and greens against rough wooden surfaces, ornaments with a handmade finish that could’ve been whittled out back in the snow.

These beautiful tree lamps made from wooden log shapes will add that natural texture to your Christmas Cabin interiors – and the twinkly lights give that extra sparkle too.

Introduce that stag motif to really capture the cabin look and feel – this chunky metal stocking holder features a stag among the trees, and the natural finish just adds to that handmade style.

The Christmas Cabin has cosiness within easy reach at all times – stocking up on throws, cushions and blankets creates a warm and inviting atmosphere. Keep on-trend with this chunky checked blanket in understated colours.

Finish off your Christmas Cabin theme with a fresh foliage wreath – we love the natural elements in this wreath, with wooden stars and cinnamon sticks contrasting nicely against the sumptuous greenery.

Christmas Cottage

Aaaah, to celebrate Christmas in a cottage! It’s a scene out of the very best festive films – small, cosy cottage in the middle of the countryside, lit by hundreds of twinkly lights, fire roaring in the grate, soft carols drifting through every room. What a dream!

You don’t have to live in an actual idyllic cottage to get the look, though – for this trend we’re talking delicate dinnerware with festive motifs, plenty of fresh foliage, fair isle knits and freshly baked cakes.
We’re absolutely obsessed with the mistletoe dinnerware range by Sophie Conran – this 12-piece set will give you everything you need to serve up Christmas dinner, cottage-style.

These little decorative houses are adorable – like a cottage in a cottage! Display them on a sideboard or mantelpiece, with fairy lights dotted in between.

The snowflake embroidery on this beautiful cushion is very country cottage – team it with a chunky knit blanket and a cup of hot chocolate.

Finally, bring those natural countryside textures inside with this snowy white berry with mixed leaves garland. Perfect for stringing up alongside your fair isle stockings.

Santa’s Grotto

If you have little ones in the house this Christmas, you’ll know festive celebrations are really all about them. There’s nothing quite like seeing the joy of Christmas in a child’s eyes to lift your seasonal spirits and get you feeling jolly!

The Santa’s Grotto theme brings all that magic to life with fun characters, bright festive colours and lots of playful elements. Once you’re done decorating you’ll definitely believe in Santa…

Two reindeers in red jumpers – what could be more Christmassy! We love this playful pair, perfect for nestling into your tree or sitting atop your mantelpiece.

A Santa motif stocking is a Christmas essential in our books – kids will love discovering tiny treasures in this colourful style.

These wipe clean festive gnome seat pads are perfect for small dinner guests. They’re very practical for messy eaters while also bringing the theme through to your table décor.

If you’re going the whole hog with your Santa’s Grotto theme, why not treat the kids to new bedding while you’re at it? We just love this fun set – who doesn’t love a sloth in a Christmas jumper?

Timeless Christmas

For those who want a calm, relaxed approach to the season, the Timeless Christmas theme is a more subtle take on the trends that will bring festive spirit to your space without being too OTT.

White linens, neutral tableware with an elevated finish, fresh foliage and simple wreaths come together to create a soft look that’s both polished and inviting.

This striped tablecloth has a subtle gold thread running through it, providing the perfect amount of sparkle to an understated table. It’s not overtly festive, so can be used all year round.

We love the architectural lines on this natural wooden tree ornament – with a soft LED light, it adds warmth to a minimalist scene.

It doesn’t get more classic than church candles, and these candles will add that flickering glow to any timeless table or classic mantelpiece. Look out for stone candlesticks to display them in, too.

Finish off your Timeless Christmas theme with an outdoors/indoors vibe – these blueberry branches bring nature into your festive décor and will look fab displayed in a stoneware vase as a centrepiece.

Opulent Christmas

Our final 2022 Christmas interiors trend is one you can really go to town with – Opulent Christmas is luxurious and grand, with gold-rimmed glasses, super fancy linens, sumptuous colours and plenty of sparkle!

Decorations look far more expensive than they actually are, and there’s a focus on rich jewel tones like emerald and sapphire shot through with flashes of gold. If you think you’ve done enough… think again and go OTT!

Start off strong with this gold-sprayed leaf garland, which is the ultimate in festive luxury! Wind it around your tree or loop it through your banister to take your luxe interiors right through the house.

This family of sparkly festive deer are adorably opulent in mixed metals with twinkly lights – we love the contrast against natural wood, too.

These carved candlesticks give us medieval feast vibes – very luxury, very decadent! Look for candles in deep jewel tones to really amp up the glam.

Finally, these gold lustre wine glasses have festive written all over them. We love the star motifs and that gold finish really elevates the look. Your guests will wonder if you’ve had a sudden lottery win with these on the table!
